CHARLES REINKE’S 3.5-.5 EDGES THOMAS FOR 1ST IN EXPERTS
1st Charles Reinke opened his night with a huge 557-252 win against Leslie Seltzer, and then rode that big cume of 305 points to a 3.5-.5 +345 tally to readily edge out his brother Thomas’s 3.5-.5 +138 score to take 1st place honors this night. In their final game, the twins played each other and each scored three bingoes as they battled to a club all-time record 485-485 tie!
2nd Thomas Reinke finished in 2nd with his aforementioned 3.5-.5 +138 final record. Brother Charles played PANOCHES, AMICABLY and HORNETS in their final 485-485 game while Thomas answered with ADIPOSES, SOPRANI and UNDERTOW.
3rd Lynda Finn finished 3rd for the 3rd straight week, this time with a 3-1 +386 total. Had her high game of the year in a 570-265 game 4 bingo game with Barb Besadny. Lynda played RADOMES, VARIOLES, GALORES and LEISURE in her own gain of 305 cume points.
HARWINDER DOWD TOPS INTERMEDIATES
1st Harwinder Dowd finished in 1st with a 2-1 +207 total. Harwinder scored three bingoes over the three games, including a very nice UNNAILS, followed by GUESSER and DOPINGS.
2nd Dee Lillge captured second on a 1-2 -186 night on her final night of the year 2011 as she is now officially off for her Florida retreat. We’ll miss her ande wish her safe travels there and back.
3rd June Scott rounded out the small contingent of Intermediates, taking 3rd on her 0-2 -114 tally. We hope the Miura’s will soon join us again as Aki returns from his latest trip to Japan.
THOMAS REINKE’S 4-0 1ST IN EXPERTS
1st Thomas Reinke added to his top spot in the experts with a solid 4-0 +282 tally. His tightest game was a narrow 22 point win (422-400) against Andy Bohnsack. Thomas also played the best bingo word of the week, ALMAGEST.
2nd Charles Reinke finished in 2nd with his 3-1 +50 total. Newbie Peter Schmiedicke gave Charles a good run, falling just short in a 452-417 high scoring affair. Charles played bingoes of GUERDONS, RARENESS, and BROWSING in his winning effort.
3rd Lynda Finn finished 3rd for the second straight week , this time with a 3-2 +73 total. Lynda’s biggest stumble was a 293-481 drubbing at the hands of Mary Becker. Mary had 3 bingoes (FLESHING, READIES and LOAMIER) to Lynda’s sole RATIONS in that game.
JANET GRIESEL TOPS INTERMEDIATES
1st Janet Griesel finished in 1st with a 3-1 +173 effort.. She won a closely played 2nd game with Harwinder Dowd with a 377-340 score, aided by Janet’s two bingoes, CLAWERS and CANINES
2nd Peter Schmiedicke captured second and moved up to the expert group as he played 3 straight 400+ games as he went 2-1 +165. Peter’s new average is a heady 385, quite respectable for a new player in a field of seasoned scrabble players.
3rd Sue Goldstein’s 2-2 -50 record was easily enough score to capture 3rd place this evening. Sue won her 3rd game 401-397 with expert Helen Flores, with the appropriate bingo of SWEETENS providing the difference.
CHARLES REINKE’S 4-1 LEADS EXPERTS
1st Charles Reinke nicely took over the reins when his brother Thomas plunged off the winner’s seat this week, by recording a solid 4-1 +416 cume. Charles, bingo king at 10 this week, played three of them (FUGATES, PARDONER and SENOPIAS) in his best game of the night, a 509-369 victory vs. Richard Lauder.
2nd Andy Bohnsack finished in 2nd on a 3-1 +216 tally. Andy won a narrow win vs. Charles (384-371) in their closing match. Andy’s nice find of BOUTIQUE helped greatly there. BTW, BOUTIQUEY is also a good word.
3rd Lynda Finn finished 3rd with a 3-1 +175 total. Lynda, who enjoys at robust 422 average this year, suffered her sole loss vs. Leslie Seltzer 416-446. Lynda nailed down the word of the week, AQUALUNG in an earlier game with Mary Becker.
SUE GOLDSTEIN TOPS INTERMEDIATES
1st Sue Goldstein took top spot in an unusually small (4) field of Intermediates. Her closest game was her 323-288 win against veteran June Scott.
2nd Harwinder Dowd captured second with her own 2-1 -18 record. Harwinder managed a razor-edged win of 349-345 against Dee Lilllge, Harwinder’s bingo there of FEARING providing the margin.
3rd Dee Lillge rode a 2-2 +90 score card into 3rd. Dee recorded her high game of the year, a thumping 475-294 final game with Sue Goldstein, blessed with her three bingos, SEASONS, GINGERS and COLDEST on a pleasantly warm October eve.
16 scrabble players met at Attic Angels this week... Lynda Finn was awarded the $4 prize for the highest “G” play (in GROK), Shayla Dunn rounded up best low R, and the high O was given out to Barb Besadny and the final low K captured by Gal Salm.
Aki Miura is off to Japan for a few weeks, so we’ll miss seeing both him and Sharlie in the meantime. We all wish for safe travels to Aki.
