1st Thomas Reinke used an extra game to his benefit as he achieved the rare 5-0 record, finishing 5-0 +344 and certainly solidifying his confidence heading into this weekend's tournament. His highest-scoring game came against Mark Kenas, whom he beat 483-416 despite falling short in the bingo battle, playing the sole URETHANS to Marks' CESURAE and TRIPODY. While that game was in process, Thomas also took on Dennis Lloyd, and won a well-fought contest, 429-411. Again, Thomas was outbingoed two-to-one, but Thomas' triple-triple of DYNAMIST for 169 points game him just enough cushion to win. Lest you think that Thomas has lost his bingoing touch, a three-bingo outing against Mark Kenas (ECTOPIA, ELOIGNER, and OLESTRA) should put those blasphemous thoughts to rest.
2nd Charles Reinke did everything he could, going 4-0 +452 and averaging 486 points per game, but the lack of an extra game torpedoed his chances of taking first place from his brother. He took a pair of games from Mark Kenas, the second of which being a high-scoring 513-447 affair. Charles' emergent knowledge of the Collins lexicon was on show with the high-probability SAGENITE#, in addition to ULTRARED and IRENICAL; Mark got down LEADIEST, BIPLANES, and the obscure Collins-only ALCATRAS#. Charles's game against Helen also saw him unleash a trio of bingos, as he played MISKNEW, RESINED, and PESTLED en route to a 499-256 victory.
1st Thomas Reinke found himself in a familiar position in the nightly standings as a 4-1 +350 performance snagged him another first-place finish. All his scores were over 400 points, even his loss, which was a rather sound 415-542 beating at the hands of Mark Kenas. Thomas got bingos of AREOLES and CABRIOLE, but Mark had BATONED#, DOPESTER, and ORIGANS. Thomas was better able to cope with that outcome given that he had already beaten Mark earlier in the night, with a similarly lopsided final score of 490-361. Thomas had CONDOLES, ELATERS, and STOURIER# in that one, while Mark's triple-triple of ANGELICA for 140 points needed to be worth about twice that for Mark to have a shot. Thomas put the finishing touches on his productive outing with a 460-327 win over Dennis Lloyd, playing RAVENERS, NEURONAL, and KEITLOAS in the process.
2nd Due to how the two-on-one matchups shook out, Charles Reinke got the rare opportunity to play six games in a single club session, but didn't even manage to compile an unprecedented 6-0 record, instead going 4-2 +433. In the first round, he lost a tightly-fought, high-scoring contest against Mark Kenas by a score of 461-472. Charles' bingos were AMPUTEES and ROUTINES; Mark had SUDAMINA#, FAVORING, and GRUNTLES. Charles' other loss was against none other than Thomas Reinke, a 371-429 affair which was a bit lower-scoring than a typical game of theirs. However, Charles' scores in the four games he won were 479, 478, 477, and 476, demonstrating the scary consistency of his point-scoring abilities.
1st Charles Reinke enjoyed a relatively unchallenged first-place finish as he finished one game and 500 spread points ahead of his nearest competition, going 4-1 +374. The high point of his evening was a hearty 523-312 win over Thomas Reinke; despite leading the club in bingos per game, Thomas failed to get a single bonus play, while Charles had three: WATTAGE, ENDIVES, and SERIEMA. Charles breached the 500-point barrier a second time against Helen Flores, coming out ahead in that encounter, 501-326. Another three bingos were in store for Charles that game (HAEREDES, OUTSAID, GERANIAL), while Helen was held to a grand total of zero bingos. Only Mark Kenas was able to put a stop to Charles' winning ways, winning the first of their two matches by a score of 481-379. Charles played the COVID-relevant BOOSTERS in that one, but Mark outdid him with ARCHNESS, CILIATE, and the Collins-only FLOATANT#.
2nd Thomas Reinke finished a distant second with his 3-2 -148 record. He got flattened by Mark Kenas in round one, outbingoed 0-4 and forced to record on his scoresheet a 376-521 final tally. Mark's gratuitous bingos included SARONGS, ENTWINE, MATURATE, and MOUNTING. However, Thomas got his revenge on Mark in round three with a 532-433 victory, this time playing three bingos: CRUNODAL, OLEARIA#, and ANDANTES. Thomas' game against Dennis Lloyd was considerably more closely-fought than either of those two games, with Thomas pulling out 420-393 win. Dennis got down a bingo of UNDERAGE, but Thomas' TOMENTUM and TOLLAGE were just enough to take the victory.
Dennis' SHIVAREE was word of the week.
