1st Charles Reinke played ten bingos in his three games, and was rewarded for his high rate of bingoage with a 3-0 +342 record. Four of those bingos could be found in a 531-372 smackdown of his brother Thomas Reinke: RIVALED, BRANNED, MYOMATA, and SOVIETS. Thomas played RETOOLED and the ever-useful ENATION. Charles wrapped up his perfect evening with a high-scoring battle against Dennis Lloyd, whom he eventually prevailed against, 496-472, getting down NAVARINS, OPERATIC, and OVERMINE in the process. The losing score of 472 is Dennis' highest losing score ever at our club, so at least his three bingos of SWITCHED, TUNDRAS, and BLENDERS didn't completely go to waste.
2nd Thomas Reinke finished at 2-1 +183, held back from perfection by his pesky brother, as detailed above. He got off to a strong start by taking advantage of Peter Schmiedicke's painkiller-addled state to score a monstrous victory, 576-295. The odd-looking VIZIRATE for 124 was just one of Thomas' four bingos. Thomas' bingo volume dropped off precipitously, however, and by the time he lined up against Helen Flores, he could only muster a single bingo of CLEAREST, but was still able to overcome Helen's 89-point PROMISE and win, 393-332.
1st Thomas Reinke added to a recent run of success where he has gotten first place in five out of the last six club sessions, this time with a 3-1 +500 record. He averaged 480 points per game in his four games, buoyed significantly by a score of 598 in round three against Helen Flores. His bingos there were OLEFINE, JIMMIES, ROADEOS, and ORTOLAN. Immediately following that indecent scoring outburst, Thomas suffered his single loss of the night, being felled by Charles Reinke, 406-464 despite bingos of TOILETRY and SURCEASE. Charles, meanwhile, proved once again the utility of high-probability bingos, getting down STERANE and TOENAILS.
2nd Charles Reinke also went 3-1, but with a smaller +421 spread. However, he did eclipse his brother's average game score with a hefty 491 average. The big story of Charles' night was him setting a new personal club record by scoring a blasphemous 666 points against Peter Schmiedicke, a score which is also good for 7th-highest at the club since more detailed scorekeeping began in 2011. Charles played five bingos, including the triple-triple PHELONIA for 176 points, while Peter mostly spectated (although Peter did get down a 98-point PIERCING). Conversely, Charles was held bingoless in a 330-428 loss against Helen Flores, who played TRAVELER and TREADLE. Helen is now 2-2 in her last four games against Charles and has thus earned bragging rights for a period of up to, but not exceeding, two (2) weeks.
3rd Bryan Benwitz was the third and final 3-1 finisher, averaging a substantial 449 points per game and finishing with a +274 cumulative. No trace of midwest hospitality could be found as he soundly defeated the visiting Diane Kerner, 475-305. Diane was able to slap down REMINTED, but Bryan countered with HOSTILE and SAMOYEDS - the first of his bingos can rather easily be related to his attitude during the game, but SAMOYEDS is a bit harder to make a connection with, unless he was thinking about fluffy Russian dogs the whole game. In round four, Bryan was unofficially awarded with "Phony of the week" as he got away with CASANOVA* during a 432-381 win over Peter Schmiedicke. Casanova is apparently always capitalized, and thus excluded from the word list, even though words like ROMEO are valid. Reason #10001 why attempting to use logic and reason to determine the validity of words is a fool's errand.
1st Thomas Reinke utterly dominated the field with a 4-0 +706 final tally. He reeled off two 500-point games back-to-back in rounds two and three to add some comfortable margin to his spread total. The first of those games was a 545-321 win over Sara McLaughlin where Thomas got down ATELIER, ORGIAST, and KAISERS. That win was followed up by a crushing 571-364 triumph over his womb-sharing nemesis, Charles Reinke. Thomas found bingos of ENOLASE, ENDOSTEA, and LAVISHER en route to an effortless victory. When all was said and done, Thomas' scores of 490, 545, 571, and 471 were, out of all games played, the four highest individual game scores of the evening.
2nd Dennis Lloyd enjoyed an average game score of 402 while going 3-1 +116. He took out Helen Flores in a well-fought contest, winning 400-380. A 100-point play of STOWAGE, to go with MEMBERS for 83 points, was crucial in securing the victory. Dennis again experienced the delights of a three-digit-scoring bingo when he played WINDIEST for 102 points while defeating Peter Schmiedicke, 433-375. He also had SILENCER as a bonus play in that one, while Peter had PRELATE and TORRENT. Dennis' sole loss was to Charles Reinke in a 388-421 affair where a single bingo of VALUERS was not quite enough.
3rd Peter Schmiedicke continued his comeback tour with a 2-2 +198 record. He played the word of the week, GUMSHOES, along with non-word-of-the-week bingos of PENTANES and SCORIAE, in a 464-302 win over Sue Goldstein, who found FOULINGS to make the loss somewhat less dramatic. The bingo engines were fully revved up for round three when Peter played four of them (LOGGIEST, SEROTINE, ATROPINE, and OURSELF) in a 469-323 win against Sara McLaughlin.
