1st Thomas Reinke, with his 2-1 +221 record, topped a 6-player field which featured no undefeated players but did feature four 2-1 players. He suffered defeat in round one against Helen Flores, 363-380, thanks to her late bingo of PEONIES (Thomas had an earlier ZOOTIER). The scoresheet for this game will certainly join the others which are currently affixed in a place of prominence on Helen's fridge. Despite the early setback, Thomas rebounded with a 446-289 win against Sue Goldstein and a 465-394 win against Charles Reinke. In the latter game, Thomas' bingos of TOROIDAL, RATIFIER, and DEFRAGS put the game out well out of the reach of his brother, who got down RAFTSMAN and MAJORITY.
2nd Bryan Benwitz went 2-1 and accumulated just enough spread points (72 of them, to be exact) to place second in the standings. Just like Thomas was a round-one loser, so was Bryan, as he was taken down by Charles Reinke 337-471. Bryan struggled to get a single bingo down (TENEBRAE), while Charles had TISSUING, GLUTTONS, and the phony WURZITES* (WURTZITE is the word he was thinking of; his attempt was possibly an unholy combination of KUNZITE and WURZEL). But Bryan's fortunes turned quickly after that disappointing outcome, and by round three he was firing on all cylinders, as demonstrated by his 483-310 triumph over Dennis Lloyd. ENGULFED, REINVENT, and SENSATED were his bingos in that one.
